Hello world,
I am Antje Uhde, a doctoral candidate at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry and Friedrich Schiller University Jena. My passion lies in studying tropical wetlands using satellite data, particularly in the fascinating Amazon region. In my Ph.D. research, I am dedicated to understanding the occurrence and unique characteristics of these ecosystems to better understand their role in climate change.
The tropics hold a special charmfor me, mainly due to their lush vegetation, extraordinary biodiversity, and the crucial role of tropical forests in our global climate. During my studies in Cartography/Geoinformatics in Dresden and my specialization in Geoinformatics in Jena, I developed a strong focus on remote sensing. Through various internships, I gained valuable experience in diverse areas.
My Earth observation journey started as a student assistant at the chair of remote sensing at the University of applied sciences in Dresden. For different scientific projects I planned Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV, i.e. drone) flights and helped processing the data to create 3D models. This assistant job took me to Mongolia where we conducted flights along the Orkhon river. I also participated in an excursion to Namibia to map the rural road network. For my Bachelor thesis I was guest researcher at the University of the West Indies in Trinindad and Tobago where I developed a new land cover map of the country using Earth observation.
As I wanted to specialize even more in remote sensing I decided to do my Masters at the University Jena. There, I was quickly involved in a research project on biodiversity and sustainable development in the Amazon as a research assistant. The participation in the Honours program of the University allowed me to travel to the lower Amazon to conduct field work. I used this data in combination with different satellite products for habitat mapping and flood dynamics analysis, information important for biodiversity assessment and sustainable policy development.
My growing interest in scientific research has led me to pursue an academic career. I firmly believe that Earth observation and the analysis of satellite data are vital for unraveling the secrets and impacts of tropical wetlands on the global climate.
On my website, I aim to share my insights and discoveries, as well as my enthusiasm for exploring these captivating ecosystems with you. I invite you to join me on my research journey and learn more about my current projects and publications.
Stay tuned for regular updates on my work, exciting scientific advancements, and news from the world of Earth observation.
Thank you for visiting and showing interest in my research!
Warm regards,
Antje Uhde
